shallow water

I am feeling more than a little shallow right now.

My mom found a savings bond for me that my (departed) aunt got for me right after I was born. I was curious how much it was worth, but then when I had it in my hand, I felt sad. I mean, I never really knew my aunt, but she got me this savings bond...maybe I should keep it? I was feeling very sentimental.

Then I found out that it is worth over a hundred dollars. I am sure she would have wanted me to spend it in Alaska. Linda, this is for you!

August ramblings

Went to see Inglourious Basterds last week. Quentin Tarantino rocks my world. Fucking wonderful movie. So many different levels, so many exquisite quotes. I might go see it again soon.

Seeing the riff of Plan 9 from Outer Space made me love MST3K all over again. Of course, the big question is, "Ed Wood, what were you thinking?"

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers might be better live?!? Totally unexpected.

Loving the colder weather, and I haven't even left the house today.

Liam Neeson is now both a citizen of both Ireland and America. I wonder what benefits this has. Would you get the best of both worlds?

I have been loving Rush recently. For some reason, I am really excited about listening to Rush and driving through Canada.

I hate that Andy has to work so much. I miss him...like now.

the week in review with ramblings

So on Wednesday we went to see Crosby, Stills and Nash at the Lawn at White River State Park. It was a really relaxing concert. Except for the drunk old man behind us, yelling at CSN to play their own music. They did several covers. I didn't know most of the songs, but we chilled out with some second hand pot smoke from the trying-to-be-cool-but-really-being-crazy-obvious teenagers in front of us. Plus, the weather was perfect. Excellent evening.

I have been reading Harry Potter fanfic, and it is amazing.

Have you ever met someone new and felt like you already knew them? It's strange. And it happened multiple times this week. Maybe I am just old and forgetting the people I already met. I did forget how old I was this week.

I am beginning to realize that I really like Disturbed. They are pretty amazing.

I am contemplating what to do today. Andy is at a race, and I am thinking I need to get out of the house. However, Luke begs to differ, it appears, as he is contentedly sleeping on my lap. Kitties love when we are using computers.

I cannot wait for Alaska.

OMG

Ok, this deserved its own post.

I had a POMEGRANATE TOOTSIE POP this week. OMG it was amazing. Yes, the caps were necessary.

Yumm.

a little late

I have been meaning to post about the 4th since it happened, but with all the MI shit going down at work, overtime has been eating my will to live. I only make full recovery on the weekend.

Independence Day was pretty much amazing. It rained for the first time in what I think must have been a long time. Stayed a little while at Grandpa's, took a nap, then headed up to Beth and Holtz's place. I am going to admit that I am always a little, "Eh." on fireworks. I think this is because my family buys lame fireworks that rarely go over 5ft in the air or make that horrendous screeching noise. But Bland...Bland knows how to pick fireworks. I must give him props for turning my view of the Great American 4th of July past-time. He put on a damn fine show. Only a few slight mishaps, but, hey, that is what the pond is for, right?

And for my favorite picture of the night

Subtitled Holtz: Harbinger of Destruction.

He didn't really foreshadow destruction, I just like any slight or somewhat stretched reason to use the work habringer. It's a good word.

IL

I have been in Naperville for the past week training. Nothing earth shattering to learn, but at least I am away from the office for a while. I think I am going to head to the little downtown area in a few with a couple girls from my office. I am not sure why I want to do more shopping, because, damn, I tore up the outlet mall last night.

I watched the entire Pride and Prejudice (250min, 1980 - not Colin Firth) miniseries while I was here. I would have watched the colin Firth version, but, that is not on instant Netflix. I love instant Netflix. Anywho, I can really only deal with Jane Austen when I know what is going to happen...or when I read a version with zombies. I read Pride and Prjudice and Zombies while going to Phoenix. That is really the only thing that made it tolerable - the threat of zombies. Oh, and that Mr. Collins kills himself after he must behead Charlotte because she is becoming a zombie and that Mr. Wickham becomes a cripple in a "carriage accident" and shits himself all day while Lydia gets to clean it up. That is how it should have gone. I was disappointed that it was not in the real version. Oh! And Lizzy and Lady Catherine have a throw down, complete with swords and throwing stars. Awesome!

I liked the movie well enough, though. That Mr. Darcy was fabulous. I think the story is utterly romantic, but I wish Victorian society was not so prudish. I think Darcy and Lizzy getting it on would have been pretty hot - so much repressed sexual energy. Instead, I settled for them walking arm in arm. Whatever. People back in those days were having sex all the time - its just that no one talked about it.

Really, there is not a story that could not be helped by some characters having sex. This leads into a discussion that Andy and I were having before we left - Janeway is the worst captain ever. Picard totally would have taken it in the ass from Q if it meant getting his crew OUT OF THE FUCKING DELTA QUADRANT. Damn, bitch, stop being so selfish. Also, Q + Picard would be kind of hot...unless it was Q from when the actor had some sort of weird plastic surgery and his face was all malformed. He looked like a Janeway-Paris lizard baby. Freaky shit.

fantastic productive

Andy and I went to Bloomington for Village Deli! for my birthday. Mmm! Delicious. Then we drove around, went to the Antique Mall, then went to my parents' house for Mozzi's and Taylor's Bakery cake...double yum! Then we had to outrun the storms while heading to the casino. What is it with my birthday and storms?!?!

Anyway, I ended up walking with an extra $.12! That is better than I thought would happen since I was having trouble with Wild Frontier...damn eagles. I love love love the automated roulette table. It is so fabulous....and dangerous. I am saving up for our next cruise though, so I think I will be staying away from Shelbyville for a while.

Great birthday! Then we painted the office and built a bookcase and bought some curtains. I really hope our desks show up...

I think I am considering Twitter, only because then I could write short little updates, but then I worry that I will be using Twitter...ugh. I just don't think I can bring myself to do it.

flippy floppies

Reason #004 I love summer (and May is summer in Indiana): I get to wear flip flops. I wish I could wear them to work. I really think it would make me more productive.

Full recovery!

So, I was driving to work today, and I see a pickup with this on the back

PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL

only I read it as

PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL

Needless to say, I needed a double take.

Today was shit at work, as all week has pretty much been. There were several times when I wanted to punch someone in the face/overturn my desk/set my desk on fire. Thankfully, I made it to the weekend without any of the above happening. And I only gave my phone the middle finger once!

Now it is on to the weekend which is bringing on a FULL RECOVERY! Andy and I went out and ate steak and watched Star Trek for a second time (this time at IMAX). That movie is freakin' insane...and I never really watched the original series. I love love love the movie. It is like fan fic come to life. And there is so much hotness in the movie; what's not to love?

cruuuuuuuuuuuise

Well, we survived a cruise with my family. Andy now knows what all my childhood vacations were like, for better or for worse. Also, I found out that I love Key West, though I am not sure whether or not I could adjust to 88 degrees and humid in early April. I could probably find a way. Also, I would post more pictures in Key West because it was fabulous, but there was an issue with the heat, my brain, and my camera battery. I have pictures on a disposable that I bought at Walgreen's. Enough said.

I think I am just going to post the underwater pictures for now. I love my water proof camera!! Also, I really cannot say how much I love snorkeling in Coco Cay. I made it out to the shipwreck, but not the plane. If I had not been burnt already, I could have spent all day out there. Royal Caribbean: private islands, you're doin' it right.

This is pretty much the only thing that is going to get me through this week:

I'm on a Boat

McCormick's Creek!

It was so beautiful out today...well, it was near Indy, but just overcast and warm once we got to McCormick's Creek State Park. We just went on one short trail, but it was nice to get out and be active. And we saw a bat! In a tree! It was awesome!

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the park from various visits:

Bat!
Beaver!

Trees!

I can't wait for there to be leaves again.

Thank you, LOLcat, for the LOLs.

short and sweet

I was going to write a longer post, but I just heard thunder from this absolutely marvelous March thunderstorm. Since my computer is only recently back up and running, I am not going to tempt fate and just cut this short.

I cannot wait for a week off of work.

Spring! Glorious Spring!

Ok, so...my computer has been morte since pretty much my last post until this weekend. Andy fixed it! Yay!

It is so beautiful outside. 70 degrees partly sunny. I can't wait for Spring to be here to stay!

I also cannot wait until we are on a boat sailing to the Bahamas in two weeks. Ann, Andy and I are going to tear Breezes apart...or just get drunk and burnt. Well, we will get burnt and Ann will be more tan.

homophones

So, Beth is, like, Queen of the Interwebs. I have no idea how she knows all of these excellent websites, but she just does. She recently pointed me to this blog about funny cakes. I thought she said "Cake Rex," so I searched for that. I was picturing something like this:

which was funny, so I thought it would be correct. The Wonder which is Google produced what I was actually looking for, which is Cake Wrecks (first result!). I was immediately filled with something between confusion and shame. Seriously, Cake Rex? That makes no sense. Thankfully, someone else went there too:

Phew. The site is quite hilarious, so I suggest you check it out. Who knew such hilarity could result from baking?

Oh, and, related to cakes but not to cake wrecks, Katie made an AMAZING cake for the Super Bowl. It was not only delicious, but look at it:

I have enough trouble getting my frosting not to mix with pieces of cake...I could never do something like this. Go, Katie!

Sunday, January 25, 2009

Andy's computer went broke-o, so we went to Frye's today to get parts to replace it. I was going to post some warm weather pictures here because it is so freaking cold that I pretty much want to just go to sleep until April, but I am just now realizing that all of my pics are on his hard drive that is sitting on our kitchen counter. Right now, not so much in love with the raid array.

Who needs drugs when...

you wake up to Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, then Big Top Pee-wee followed by The Big Lebowski? Seriously, I feel like I have been doing drugs all morning.

But, seriously, how adorable is Jason Bateman?

Also! I did find some vintage David Thewlis (Professor Lupin!) in Big Lebowski, which made me giggle:

He did look totally creeps, though. Totally creeps. Much better as a teaching werewolf.

dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb

I just called Melting Pot and asked if they have any immediate seating. The hostess said, "For tonight?"

Do you fucking know the meaning of immediate? It means RIGHT NOW, not in three days.

"Yes, I mean for tonight."

"Oh, yes, we do."

Idiot.

Tonight was a most excellent way to usher in 2009. An absolutely wonderful gathering. Here's to 2009!
